1941: On this day, 814 20-year-old city girls responded to their call-up papers - although some forgot their registration card! Many of the girls had come with their mothers, while others had their boyfriends for company. Some are described as arriving 'with an army escort on either side'. Quite a few perambulators are also recorded as being parked outside the building. (Gray, David, Peterborough at War 1939-1945, David Gray, 2011)

On Monday 3 February 2020 a water main burst on Bourges Boulevard in the city, causing a flood and making it appear that the city had gained another river! The major road was closed eastbound from the Queensgate Roundabout to the Rivergate Roundabout, causing major disruption around the city. The road remained shut until Saturday 15 February to allow for repairs.
On Friday 9th July 2021 the same stretch of Bourges Boulevard was flooded again after torrential rain left several locations in the city under water. The flooding caused many people to be trapped at Rivergate until the water receded, the road being impassable between the Bridge Street pedestrian crossing and Albert Place. Flooding also affected the nearby Car Haven Car Park, Waitrose, PE1 Retail Park, Dogsthorpe, and Welland.
Anglian Water have since identified issues with drainage in Bourges Boulevard.
