Information
1945: At 7 a.m., a lorry carrying German prisoners of war from Glatton camp to work on nearby farms was travelling across the Connington railway crossing in thick fog. The visibility was down to 15 yards or so, according to an account in the Peterborough Citizen, when it was hit side-on by a railway engine. Six of the German prisoners died, while another five were injured. They were all being taken to Peterborough Infirmary by lorry when that was hit by a bus in the continuing fog. This collision badly injured two more persons. (Orme, Stuart, Haunted Peterborough, The History Press, 2012)
